Certificates for disabled demanded
DH News Service, Gubbi:

Since past several months the medical board hasn't been issuing certificates to the physically challenged, accused the office-bearers of the Association for the welfare of the physically challenged.

They staged a dharna in front of the Government hospital recently against the absenteeism of the medical board.
The medical board has been instituted by the government to look into the welfare of the physically challenged.

Though this is the case the members of the board have not been meeting on a regular basis, thereby affecting the issuing of the certificates to the physically challenged, said Narasegowda, president of the association.

Moreover, the board has been issuing certificates to those with a mere 10 to 20 per cent of disability, thereby depriving the genuine physically challenged of the benefits provided by the government, he added.

Also, several physically challenged people have been unable to avail themselves of the grants given under a scheme of the government, to construct houses, due to a delay in issuing of certificates by the board.

Secretary of the association Guru Chennabasappa said that if this attitude of the medical board continues we would have to intensify the struggle.
