'Progress only through education'
DH News Service, Gubbi:

Legislator S R Srinivas expressed concern that even 60 years after independence there was social inequality.

He was speaking at the 60th Independence Day celebrations held at PU college premises, here on Wednesday and said those who are progressing economically utilising the facilities that globalisation had brought in, they were leading a cush life. But dalits in rural areas and the life of backward classes which was deteriorating day-by-day was really a matter of concern, he added.

In the light of the thinking that the country can progress only through education, the coalition government has established one thousand highschools, 600 PU colleges and more than 150 degree colleges, he said.

No other government had given so much of importance to education in the past. Independence did not mean one could do anything that one wanted. Everyone should strive hard for the development of the country, he said, giving a call to the youth.

Tahsildar hoisted the national flag and received the guard of honour and read out the independence day message.

ZP member K C Krishnamurthy, APMC president T R Chikkaranganna, secretary Pushpa, TP president Rahmatunnisa, president Basavarajaiah, TP member Vadalur Vijaykumar, E O D K Lingaraju, chief executive officer B Vijaykumar, principal Prabhavathi, BEO S Rajkumar, L V Savanth, K R Ashok Kumar, G R Sh ivakumar, K B Krishnappa, Suresh Gowda and others were present.

On the occasion the legislator felicitated the freedom fighters of the taluk on behalf of the Government fair price shop owners association.

The Lions club awarded the SSLC  and PUC students of last year who had scored the highest marks. H R Chandrashekar welcomed. Shivaramegowda proposed a vote of thanks. B H Shivanna compered.

Independence Day: The 60th Independence Day was celebrated at the Government First Grade College. Principal Prof Vishwa hoisting the national flag said, the country in its 60 years amidst a lot of challenges had still made a lot of progress.

The youth of today along with personal growth should also think of the nation’s progress, he added. Physical Education director S P Rudramuni, Dr Raghuram, Prof T V Nagaraju, Prof R Siddahanumaiah, Prof S K Shivananjappa, Prof C Ramachandrappa, Biligere Krishnamurthy, Prof Venkatachala and other teachers were present.
