SL

If you had a chance to visit the City Railway Station on Independence Day, you would have seen catchy slogans such as ‘Spitting is disgusting’, ‘Clean and neat, very sweet’, ‘Rubbish for the dustbin only’ and ‘Smoking harms others’, scrawled on placades carried during a procession inside the station premises.

Scouts and guides of Railways and top Railway officials took part in the march led by scout masters  K Mahendra and Uday Suryan.

This formed part of the 60th Independence Day celebrations organised by South Western Railways. August 15 to 31 has been declared as ‘Sanitation fortnight’ by the division.

During the period, added emphasis will be given to clean tracks and drains inside the station, prompt garbage removal, removal of posters in unauthorised places, insistence on the cleaning contractor enhancing cleanliness inside the station by increasing his staff strength and deploying proper equipments.

The RPF personnel and ticket collectors will also book cases of littering and nuisance during the phase. The celebration was inaugurated by Assistant Divisional Railway Manager Deepak Chabra. City Station Manager M R Bala Murugadass and members of the Cleanliness Department who participated included Deputy Station Managers R E Noah and Sanjeeviah.
