I-Day amid tight security
Elaborate security arrangements were witnessed all over New Delhi on Wednesday as the nation celebrated its 60th Independence Day with the unfurling of the national Flag on the ramparts of the Red Fort by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, reports UNI from New Delhi.
A huge police bandobast was witnessed on the roads leading to the Red Fort, the venue for the event with police barricades stationed at several points across the city for detailed checking of vehicles.
The area around the Red Fort- Bahadurshah Zafar Marg, Ansari Road, Chandi Chowk, Old Delhi Railway Station and Chandni Chowk were marked by unprecedented security, making the area resemble a fortress.
Mediapersons and other visitors at the Red Fort had to pass through multifarious security checks, while their vehicles were also thoroughly scanned.
Mobile service disrupted
Mobile services in Kashmir valley were disrupted on Wednesday as cellular operators turned down the links as a precautionary measure during Independence Day celebrations, official sources said, reports PTI from Srinagar. The mobile services to nearly 10 lakh subscribers were disrupted.
