29 individuals, 2 institutions receive special I-Day awards  
In a simple function organised at Raj Bhavan, Governor T N Chaturvedi presented the special annual awards for a group of 20 fishermen from Mangalore, two institutions and nine other individuals.
Celebrations, no speeches!  
The year-long nationwide celebration of 150th year of first war of independence on Wednesday began on a different note, with no political speech and rhetoric.
Paying tribute to freedom fighters  
The City wore a festive look even as thousands of citizens, including women and children, attired in colourful dress, thronged the Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Grounds to witness the I-Day function.
81,000 children still out of school in State  
Last year there were around 1.07 lakh children out of school, but this year the number has come down to 80,863.
