Speaking after unfurling the National Tricolour at Sir M V stadium, district incharge minister Mumtaz Ali Khan opined that young generation should come forward to tackle the challenges before the nation.
The minister called upon youths to reaffirm their commitment to fight unemployment, corruption, exploitation plaguing the country, on the occasion of Independence Day.
He said that every citizen equally shoulders the responsibility of safeguarding the freedom won by sacrifice of thousands of dedicated patriotic souls.
The minister disclosed that a Rs 294 cr proposal had been submitted to the government for rejuvenation of tanks in the district apart from Rs 7.50 crore proposal for improving the stadium.
Conspicuous absence
Taluk panchayat president, vice-president and members were conspicuous by their absence at the function. The members of the local body are said to have been irked over leaving out their names in the invitation card. However, they participated in the celebrations held in front of taluk office.
‘Safeguard freedom’
KGF: Legislator Y Sampangi has called upon people to preserve unity and national integrity in order to safeguard the hard-won freedom.
Presiding over Independence Day celebrations at municipal ground here on Friday, he said that a few anti-national elements were spreading fissiparous tendencies in the country and the motive of such activities could be defeated if people stand united.
He said welfare schemes formulated by the government had become a privilege of a few vested interests and Indians have to liberate themselves in the literal sense by teaching a “befitting lesson” to such usurpers.
Pallavi Mani, who traced the freedom struggle in the annals of history termed national independence as the culmination of sacrifices by innumerable freedom fighters.
P L Raja, Srikanth, Manjunath and B V Gopinath, all members of District Working Journalists Association were felicitated on the occasion. Municipal commissioner Yarrappa, assistant executive engineer Jayaram, deputy superintendent of police K B Kuduchi and others were present.
‘India lagging in progress’
Chinthamani: India hasn’t achieved much progress post-independence in comparison to other nations. “Countries which won freedom after India have progressed by leaps and bounds while we are yet to realise the dream of Gandhian Gram Swaraj”, observed legislator Dr M C Sudhakar.

Opining that decentralisation of power was yet to yield desired results, the legislator called upon people to shelve the practice of looking towards government for trivial purposes. He emphasised the responsibility cast on citizens in a democratic system of governance.
The MLA said that politicians were treading the wrong path to meet their selfish needs. Taluk panchayat president Lakshminarayana Reddy, TAPCMS president Ravindra Gowda and others were present.
