Celebrations amidst tight security  
The State Government on Friday observed the 61st Independence Day amidst tight security. B S Yeddyurappa became the first BJP Chief Minister in South India to hoist the tricolour to mark an Independence Day.
Political parties play spoilsport
Chaos unfurled  
The Independence Day celebrations took a violent turn in Mahadevapura in Bangalore on Friday after two groups belonging to different political parties tried to settle scores and attempted to disrupt the celebrations. Tiny-tots watched the unfurling drama in fear and shock.
CM makes a bullet-proof debut  
A bullet-proof enclosure stood starkly on the dais as Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa delivered his maiden Independence Day speech from behind it on Friday.
