Tension prevailed in Tubarahalli on Whitefield Road near ITPL after two factions of construction workers locked horns and went berserk over a trivial issue on Wednesday late night.
The incident took place at the Purvankara construction site where thousands of construction workers are living at a makeshift shed.
Police were forced to use canes to disperse the crowd and in the melee, more than a dozen persons including Venkataswamy, a police constable and a sub-inspector Ravi Prasad were injured.
In connection with this, nearly 60 workers have been rounded off and taken into police custody.
Sources said, eve teasing led to chaos. After dinner, one of the male workers in an inebriated state approached a woman working at the same site, used abusive language and misbehaved. Following this, the woman raised an alarm. Within minutes, hundreds of her friends and relatives came to her rescue and physically assaulted the eve teaser.
The culprits retaliated early in the morning and attacked the other group, leading to ugly scenes. Timely intervention and deployment of KSRP platoon saved the day.
Police shifted a majority of the workers to different venues and restored peace. Police are yet to catch the culprits.
