M.Sc Analytical Chemistry course at St Aloysius College was inaugurated by Mangalore University Head of Department of Post Graduate Studies in Chemistry Dr A M A Khader.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Khader said that the scope of Analytical Chemistry has only expanded over the years. “Earlier it was applied on inorganic samples to find the qualitative and quantitative results. But today it is applied in almost every branch and even in day to day life,” Mr Khader added.
Right from blood test, food analysis, emission testing, LPG filing to aspects of social science such as dating monuments, restoration, forensic study etc need Analytical Chemistry. He said that an analytical chemist is much required in most of the major industries as quality controller.
St Aloysius Institutions Rector Fr Francis Serrao presided over the programme while Department of Chemistry faculties were present.
The course curriculum is designed to incorporate the latest developments in the field with a strong institution-industry interface. The course is said to be the first of its kind in Mangalore University area. The intake for this course is 30 students.
The course is co-ordinated by the Department of Chemistry which is well equipped with ultra modern laboratories and experienced faculties. Five of the faculties here have Ph.D and several research publications in the National and International journals.
