Until recently, art in the City was all about going to a gallery and picking up a ready made work of art. However, this changed when Magnitude Art Gallery set up shop last year. Magnitude provides customised art apart from regular artwork.
Says SR Magar, MD, Magnitude Art Gallery, “a customer can come in and give us his ideas and what he is looking for and our team of artists will work with him to create the painting he wants. We also check out their house and suggest what kind of paintings will suit their home.”
Explaining the idea behind this, Keyrun Rao says, “whenever you buy a painting, it represents the artist’s emotions and ideas at the time that he is making the painting. We believe that we don’t have to force an artist’s impressions on the customer, one can come in and ask for a painting that they would like.”
Anniversary
Magnitude chose to celebrate its first anniversary by hosting a 21-day art exhibition ‘Rang Barse.’ This is actually a series of seven smaller shows each with its own theme, that will be on for three days.
The first show that was organised was the Gajakarna, which was based on various forms and depictions of Lord Ganesha. The other themes on display will be Enigma, which will consist of abstract art, Soundarya which has been inspired by nature, Aakaar which explores architecture through art, Bhoomi brings alive the rustic beauty of the countryside and Krrishi is about life in the farmlands.
An interesting theme that has been included is the Techno Kala which connects the IT world to art. There will be around 25 to 35 paintings per show and they will be in different sizes and mediums.
In fact, the gallery says that they will have an economy range which will be on paper as opposed to canvas. The price range of the paintings is Rs 800 to Rs 1.5 lakh.
All of Magnitude’s art is by in-house artists who work full-time for the gallery. ‘Rang Barse’ is on till August 31 at Magnitude Art Gallery, 140/13, 27th Cross, 13th Main, 3rd Block, Jayanagar.
