Independent MLA from Karnataka Ravikant Patil was injured in a scuffle with police when they questioned him for violating a Supreme Court order banning bursting of firecrackers late on Wednesday night at Solapur.
Patil, who represents Indi constituency, suffered multiple injuries in the clash and was admitted to the ICU of the Solapur civil hospital, police said. He was arrested, produced in a court and released on a bail for Rs 10,000.
Patil was injured in the scuffle when policemen questioned him for violating the Supreme Court order banning bursting of firecrackers during his birthday bash, Solapur Police Commissioner Ashok Kamte said. However, Patil alleged it was Kamte who assaulted him.
Kamte had gone to the residence of Patil, asking the MLA and his supporters not to burst crackers and disturb the neighbourhood, police said.
