Vivekananda enter semis
DH News Service, Bangalore:

Led by Arun Raj's good showing, Vivekananda PU College outclassed BHS First Grade College in straight sets in the State-level inter-collegiate volleyball tournament at the Sree Kanteerava stadium outdoor courts here.

Vivekananda's 25-19, 25-16, 25-19 victory on Thursday earned them a semifinal clash against fancied Al-Ameen College. Al-Ameen scored a crushing 25-9, 25-15, 25-11 win over St Joseph's Arts and Science College in another quarterfinal.

In the other last four stage clash, Surana College will take on Alva's College, Moodbidre.

In the Vivekanada-BHS encounter, the former started rather slowly. Once into the groove, there was no stopping their spikers. Attacker Arun Raj was the key man for Vivekananda on the day. BHS defence had no answer to his probing smashes.

With the Saravanan and Sridhar playing the supporting role to a nicety, there was no stopping Vivekananda.
BHS, literally a one-man army, depended solely on Kushal.

The BHS player excelled in all departments of the game — setting, spiking and blocking.

His all-round heroics could not change the script, but it only delayed the inevitable.

The rest of the players, who turned up for the match in different colours, just didn't have the wherewithal to test Vivekananda, let alone win the match.

Before Vivekananda could take the court, favourites Al-Ameen scored a lop-sided win over Josephites.

Results (Quarterfinals): Al-Ameen vs Vivekananda College bt BHSFGC 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-19); Al-Ameen bt SJA&Sc 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-11); Alva's College, Moodbidre bt SJCC 3-0 (25-12, 25-22, 25-13); Surana College bt NSAM 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-23).

Semifinal line-up: Al-Ameen vs Vivekananda; Alva's College vs Surana College.
