The High Court on Thursday ordered the State government to revise the daily wages payable to plantation workers of the State, within six months, following a petition filed by Sahyadri Plantation and General Workers’ Union.
In view of the order, more than five lakh labourers working in the coffee and tea plantations of Chickmagalur, Kodagu, Hassan and Mysore, presently getting Rs 52 daily as per the pay scale revised in 1999, would be benefited with a 10 to 15 per cent rise in their wage structure.
The Union had contended before the Court that though rules prescribed revision of pay scale every three years, the workers were being paid old scale wages since eight years.
