Three years after buying sites in Bangalore Development Authority Layout, allottees have come together to address the layout’s infrastructure issues.
Allottees of the Sir M Visvesvaraya Nagara BDA Layout (further extension) 8th Block have formed a residents’ welfare association to collectively push their case with the authorities.
“The sites in the layout were allotted in 2004. It’s not possible to individually pursue matters related to infrastructure... we thought it was better to have an association,” said Arvind Ashok, President of the Association.
The layout has around 3,000 sites on which three or four houses have already come up, when basic amenities including power, water, sewerage and roads are not in place yet.
After the formation of the group, things have started to look better, Arvind pointed out. “The constant shifting of officials in BDA has not helped our case either... now, things are getting back on track and a good start will happen by January next year, when the work order for the roads is expected,” he said.
The association members are banking on the pending sewerage drains which according to them would speed up construction activities in the layout. Though, there are worries about the way the layout has been developed since 2004, the members hope to put the issues behind and work together with BDA for development.
