Vijayanagar police arrested, Chandrashekhar, an engineer in a private company in Bangalore, on the charges of cheating his first wife. Chandrashekhar, son of a retired PWD under secretary, had married Jayapriya in 2003 in Tumkur despite opposition from his parents as it was an inter-caste marriage. The marriage was registered in Bangalore.
He had decided to marry for the second time ignoring protests from Jayapriya. His second marriage with Sushma, an engineer in a private company in Bangalore, was fixed on August 17 in a choultry in Bangalore. Sushma is a native of Mysore.
Jayapriya, approached Vijayanagar police, seeking action. “When she came to us, she was unable to walk and talk as she had consumed sleeping pills. We rushed her to a hospital. We checked her bag and found some photographs she had taken with Chandrashekhar.
We called parents of Chandrashekhar and Sushma to the hospital Sushma’s parents immediately called off the marriage on learning the ‘history’ of Chandrashekhar. We arrested him and he was remanded to judicial custody by a court,” the police added. Sushma’s father is additional registrar and administrator of Sri Bhagyalakshmi Co-operative Sugar Factory, Khanapur, Belgaum.
Police said it was immediately not known as to why he decided to marry second time. But it was not for dowry, they added.
