Mainland China has become synonymous with good Chinese food in the country. Though many may think that food under the same brand tastes the same, the new Mainland China in Indiranagar proves that it is the skill of the chef that helps a restaurant stand out.
The decor is in true Mainland China style, simple yet elegant. The seating is spacious and there is a fair amount of space between tables. But for those who want more space, the restaurant has private and semi-private dining areas in the second floor, dedicated to high profile clients who wish to dine without being disturbed.
Delicious dishes
The food, as mentioned is what takes the cake. With ample choice for vegetarians and non-vegetarians, the menu has some great dishes to delight one’s taste buds. To start with there are the veg and chicken siu mai, which are basically dumplings, then there is the vegetable Konjeenaro which is worth a try.
Once you are through with the starters, if you allow the chef to choose a menu for you, there can be nothing better. Chef Anthony is one of those chefs who somehow knows the taste of his guests. So if you love corn, don’t be surprised to find kernels in the fried rice and the gravies. The spicy Vegetable Dumplings in Chilly Soy is the pick of the lot for gravies and is ideal with rice. The dish represents a style of cooking that Mainland China has perfected — Chinese but with a dash of Indian flavour.
The dishes are obviously not completely Indian but they are slightly modified to suit our taste, because truth be told, most of us still love modifying international cuisine with Indian elements! True blue Chinese food lovers needn’t worry, there are obviously a fair amount of authentic Chinese dishes as well. The Jiang Chicken would win for looking the most appetising! Golden and glazed, the dish is juicy and crisp.
The Crisp Fried Prawns in Chilly Plum is another good option for non-vegetarians.
One dish that is worth a mention and is exceptional in its ability to appeal to everyone’s tastes is the Crisp Spinach with Sesame and Almonds. The dish is the perfect blend of sweet and spice and consisting primarily of crunchy leaves, is light. The dish is a must try even for those who do not like spinach!
Dessert
The dessert segment also does not disappoint, with the Mango Chocolate Mousse topping the list. This sinful indulgence has pieces of mango hidden in rich chocolate mousse and a tiny layer of vanilla ice cream, just right to balance flavours of the fruit and chocolate.
The restaurant also has a buffet for lunch. It is a sit-down buffet going in tune with the restaurant’s fine-dine atmosphere.
The restaurant is on 100 Ft Road, Indiranagar, near the Airport Road flyover.
