Marigold
Manasi Paresh Kumar
English (U)
Cast: Salman Khan, Ali Larter, Nandan Sen
Director: Willard Caroll

Let us first burst the myth. This movie is NOT Salman Khan’s Hollywood debut. It is actually Ali Larter’s introduction Bollywood. Cornier than the most hard core hindi masala movies, this film is believes in reinforcing every stereotype there is about India.

Cluttered with princely states, camels, deserts, beggars it is the adventure of a spoilt American starlet stranded in India, who is rescued by a working prince (Khan)!

What follows is your average Bollywood soap opera that is as original as a self painted Mona Lisa. What the  director had in mind was a cross culture adventure exploring the nuances of an a exotic land. But the experience is like finding  sambar being served at a Chinese buffet.

And you can’t but help ask Salman Khan ... what were you thinking? He sleep walks through the entire film and it is tough call to make about whose accent is heavier. Ali Larter should stick to saving the world and leave the jhatkas to the professionals out here. With a concept that is as slippery as a blob of mercury, you leave the theatre wondering why you chose to watch in the first place! This marigold wilts
