It is quite heartening to note that our Prime Minister has allocated a good sum of
Rs.25, 000 crore for the development of agriculture (Independence Day address). Farmers are indeed the "backbone" of our country. If the growers of food are well cared for, the nation will certainly progress. Dr.Manmohan Singh is well versed with economy and plight of farmers and I earnestly wish he will see that his plans are put to action at the earliest. This will definitely prevent further tragedies and suicides of farmers. Further it will aid in more production of food which will bring great relief to millions of poor in our country. It is shameful to observe that despite 60 years of Independence we are still unable to provide even two square meals to our poor brethren. The pathetic and sorry plights of the growers of our food need immediate and quick relief.
