A remarkable development is observed with regard to the implementation of Bhadra Upper project that envisages supply of water to Chitradurga, Davanagere, Bangalore Rural, Tumkur, and Kolar districts. Highly placed sources say that the Krishna Jalabhagya Nigam canal zonal office has been shifted to Shira, Tumkur district, as its centre.
The Circle office of the Bhadra Upper project, shifted to Shira will be number 3. Shortly a superintending engineer and necessary staff will be recruited.
Under the Shira circle, Bhadra Upper project section 9, sub-division 23, sub-division, Kolar 27 and Madhugiri 25 will execute the works.
Tarikere, Ajjampura, Gajanur and Hosadurga offices will come under circle office number 1 under Chitradurga. Though the shifting of office premises seems a ‘technical’ step, it is going to speed up the administrative implementation of the project.
Former minister and president of Krishna Kolla Neeravari Horata SamithiT B Jayachandra had insisted on transferring the Bhadra project office to central Karnataka and also to modify K C Reddy committee report to get the water through Tumkur canal. He had also argued with the government that if the KC Reddy commission report was implemented in toto, it would incur crores of rupees in expense to implement just drip irrigation. Jayachandra had spent Rs 85,000 to get experts prepare a feasibility report about providing water to central Karnataka naturally without a heavy budget.
According to the information available, the Karnataka Irrigation Commission has agreed to implement the project as per the changed drawings and modifications suggested in Jayachandra’s report.
