The condition of 26 year old Heena Fatima and Tarveen Kaur who were sustained burns in an acid attack is
highly deplorable. The barbaric conduct of acid attackers needs to be condemned by the society and stringent
punishment requires to be inflicted on them. The acid attackers have no right to exist on the surface of earth and courts while dealing with such cases should award life imprisonment or even capital punishment, as the crime is more serious than murder.
The Supreme Court has aptly said that since acid attacks are worse than murder, harsh laws are needed to deal with such cases. Also, courts should not grant bail to perpetrators. You have rightly pointed out that acid attackers must not be allowed to get away . The victims have to live in this world with ugly faces due to acid
burn and face mental trauma of living , if they survived. Can any amount of compensation could bring the original status or appearance of women ?
Mostly women are victims in acid throwing cases when they reject man's advances or a proposal of marriage or her fidelity is suspected. The perpetrators obtain acid from grocery stores and acid throwing appears to be an easy game to commit this intolerable offence. Therefore, there is an imperative need for the concerned authorities to open their eyes to address this problem and act on a war-footing to restrict the procurement of acid. The total ban may perhaps serve the purpose. It would be fitness of things if the Government makes necessary attempt to make the law rigid and harsh so that severe punishment could be imposed on acid attackers besides providing necessary medical facilities to the two victims referred to above without any loss of time.
