12 girls killed in road mishap
Fourteen persons, including 12 college girls were killed near Ghasoli, in a road accident on Monday, DHNS reports from Jaipur. The accident took place when the mini bus they were travelling in collided with a truck, police sources said.
Passengers of the ill-fated bus were on their way to the B.Ed college in Kotkasim district.
Of the total 15 passengers, the Principal and ten girls died on the spot while four injured and the driver breathed their last in the hospital. 
Foreigner found dead in Delhi hotel
A Swedish national was found dead in a hotel on Monday, PTI reports from New Delhi.
Mohd Gareisha Ali, a Swedish national of Tunisian origin, was staying in a hotel in Paharganj near New Delhi Railway station, a police officer said.
Ali did not respond when attendants knocked at his door on Sunday. Police broke open the door to find Ali’s body lying on the bed, he said. He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The officer said Ali, 54, was a diabetic and was suffering from depression.
Woman applies mehndi for 12 hours
In a bid to enter the Limca Book of Records, a woman lawyer applied mehndi to 229 hands non-stop in 12 hours, PTI reports from Salem.
35-year old Mona Raju, practising in city courts, undertook the exercise from 7:30 am on Sunday in the presence of a large gathering at the Gujarati Samaj premises.
Salem Mayor Rekha Priyadarshini was among the women who offered their hands for applying mehndi.
Mona wanted to go for a 24-hour long effort but she was advised to limit it to 12 hours as the existing record was 80 hands in six hours only.
Security for Dera witnesses
Security cover has been provided to all CBI witnesses in three cases of murder and rape in which Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmit Ram Rahim Singh is an accused, PTI reports from Sirsa (Haryana).
The security cover has been provided by the Sirsa police at the directions of the CBI, Superintendent Police Vikas Arora said on Monday.
The Dera chief is an accused in the murder cases of Ranjit Singh, a former manager of the Dera, and Sirsa-based journalist Ram Chander Chhattarpati and the rape case of a female devotee.
Bail for Chahal in land grab case
Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday granted bail to B I S Chahal, advisor to former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, in the alleged land-grab case in a village near Ludhiana, PTI reports from Chandigarh.
Justice Surya Kant also granted bail to Jagdish Singh, father-in-law of Chahal’s son – Bikramjit Singh – who was also arrested by the police in connection with the case.
A resident of Dad village near Ludhiana had charged Chahal and others with forcibly grabbing his agricultural land last year.
Lovelorn bank official ends life
A sales manager of a bank committed suicide after a woman refused to marry him PTI reports from Ghaziabad.
Ajay Chauhan, working with HDFC Bank’s Connaught Place branch, committed suicide in his house at Sahibabad in Uttar Pradesh.
SSP Deepak Ratan said Chauhan’s body was found hanging from the ceiling fan in his house. A suicide note found near the body said: “Sorry Sonia” — Ajay.
