The Australian government is working on a new plan to negotiate a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and to have increased security cooperation. A submission prepared by Foreign Minister Alexander Downer and endorsed by the cabinet has outlined the new approach “designed to elevate the India relationship to a core element in Australia’s international orientation,” The Australian newspaper said.

It also pledged to provide an active diplomatic support to New Delhi’s bid for a permanent seat in UNSC.
