The Bangalore School of Music presents a special evening of Iberian Guitars, featuring guitarists Nikhil George and Dinesh K, who will be playing classical, Portuguese and jazz guitar. The concert will take place on August 3 at 7 pm at the Alliance Francaise.
Guitarist Khundrakpam Dinesh hails from Manipur, began playing guitar while in school in 1995 and started a rock band later.
After moving to Bangalore in 2000, he joined the Bangalore School of Music (BSM) to study classical guitar with well-known teacher Kenneth Isaac and is now a classical and Portuguese guitar teacher himself.
He also plays the Portuguese guitar and has attended master classes with the great Maestro Antonio Chainho and Swedish guitarist Calle Ljungkvist among others. He recently visited Portugal on a scholarship to do a short and intensive course in Portuguese guitar under Antonio Chainho, courtesy the Fundacao Oriente.
Dinesh has also had the opportunity of master classes with Roger Zimmermann (Germany) and Adam Khan (UK) on their many visits to Bangalore and other cities of India.
Guitarist Nikhil George successfully passed his LTCL Recital Diploma in Classical Guitar in December 2005.
This self-taught guitarist is one of the five instrumentalists in the country, who were awarded the Young Artistes Scholarship by the Government of India in 2005.
Nikhil has gained admission at the Royal College of Music, London to study for a Masters in Composition.
The BSM is trying to raise funds for his studies in London.
Donor invitation cards for the concert, in aid of faculty development and the music outreach programme for underprivileged children are available from July 31 at the BSM, Alliance Francaise and at the Dockers exclusive stores on Brigade Road, 100 Feet Road, Indiranagar and Forum Mall.
