All about unplanned development
Perin Ilavia
Sadanandnagar Layout, off the Old Madras Road, east of NGEF factory, is a story of neglect and unplanned development.

Sadanandnagar Layout, off the Old Madras Road, east of NGEF factory, is a story of neglect and unplanned development. This layout, planned 15 years ago, was designed for the middle and the upper class.

This place lacks the basic amenities. Pedestrians paths are virtually missing. Pedestrians will have to walk on the roads where the traffic is continuous. The debris lying on either side of Ring Road to the South East makes negotiating this stretch a virtual nightmare. The only bus stop in the area has no signboard to indicate it’s a bus stop and the open sewage nearby serves as a perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes and when in rains the drains overflow making living around this place impossible.

There are close to a 1000 vehicles commuting this stretch everyday. The roads haven’t been tarred or widened. Traffic jams are a common sight on this road. The only lung space around this locality is weed laden and the open storm water drain in its vicinity makes walking in the park impossible.

Heaps of garbage in empty plots between houses and in open spaces is the order of the day. Looks like the residents living in and around this place lack the basic civic sense. Garbage is disposed in the most uncivilised way. The residents don’t pay heed to the garbage collector who comes knocking every morning. Residents association is virtually dysfunctional in this area. The stray dog menace is at its worst here. No initiative is taken to eliminate this problem.

The bad roads serve as an advantage for the autowallahs who charge exorbitant amounts to anyone who wants to get across this stretch.

The mushrooming temporary shelters is another problem. These tribals who live in these temporary shacks also use empty plots to answer nature’s call.
