Gone are the days, when joint replacement used to come with lots of pain, blood-loss, a long period of hospitalisation and a big scar on the skin. Now, the incision for a knee joint can be just four inches to six inches long with less blood loss and fast rehabilitation at Wockhardt Hospital Centre for Joint Replacement.
The centre, launched on Friday, is located at Wockhardt's super-specialty hospital on Bannerghatta Road, Bangalore. The centre has minimal infection rate. This is largely because surgeons wear specially designed suits (resembling space-suits) while operating.
A workshop showcased the latest advancement in medical technology for joint replacement at the launch. Dr Raymond Eric Randle from the John Flynn Hospital, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Australia and Dr Sanjay Pai, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Wockhardt Hospitals, talked about the benefits of this minimal access surgery at the launch.
