Brazilian win amazes Maradona
Diego Maradona admitted he was in awe of Brazil after Argentina's great rivals won the Copa America without Kaka and Ronaldinho, reports Reuters from Buenos Aires.
Maradona also said Brazil's 3-0 win over Argentina in the Copa America final two weeks ago — their third successive three-goal win over Argentina — was so comprehensive that he did not even cry. "They didn't take all their monsters to Venezuela," said Maradona in an interview with the sports daily Ole. "So, the question is what will happen when they play to their full potential. What is going to happen when the real Brazil play? "I'm not speaking for Argentina either, I'm speaking for Germany, Italy, Spain..."
The pretty ‘Pele in skirts’
Marta is the queen of Brazilian women’s soccer and she received personal congratulations from the king.
Pele called the FIFA Player of the Year after she led Brazil to a gold medal in the Pan American Games. He referred to the 21-year-old as the “Pele in skirts,” the Rio de Janeiro daily O Globo said. “Actually, it was my assistant, Pepito, who made the comparison. And I agree,” Pele said from Germany. “And I’ll say this: she has an advantage because her legs are prettier than mine.”
Marta-led Brazil to a perfect record in the Rio games, scoring 12 of Brazil’s 33 goals. The team won all its games and didn’t allow a goal, defeating the United States 5-0 in the final.
Skater stopped in his tracks
A Japanese figure skater descended from the mighty 16th century warlord Nobunaga Oda has been pulled over for suspected drink-driving — on a moped, reports Reuters from Tokyo.
Police in Osaka are set to file papers citing 20-year-old Nobunari Oda for driving under the influence of alcohol. Oda admitted to drinking liquour before being stopped on his moped at a police checkpoint. "Usually I have my mother pick me up when I am drinking. But I didn't have my mobile," Oda said.
