The State government submitted before the Karnataka High Court on Wednesday that it was persuading the Union government to ensure a decision as to the scheme proposed for reviving NGEF, within the next two months. Following this, company judge Justice Ram Mohan Reddy adjourned the NGEF liquidation proceedings.
In response to the Court’s query as to the status of the application made to the Union government seeking accord for the NGEF revival package, Government advocate Ramachandraiah said that State government was persuading for a decision before the Court-stipulated period ended. He said, the State government had addressed a letter to the Union government, seeking early disposal of its application, on March 29, 2007. A copy of the HC Division Bench order dated March 28, 2007, that had stipulated a time-frame of six months for taking the decision, has also been forwarded to the Centre, he stated. The case stood adjourned by two weeks.
Speed governors
A PIL challenging the State government notification compelling fitment of speed governors for heavy vehicles, came up for hearing before the HC on Wednesday. The petition filed by Padmashree Social, Cultural and Charitable Association, Bangalore impugned the Government notification dated March 28, 2005, notifying the vehicles requiring the installment of speed governors.
The Association contended that compulsion was without scientific basis and sought the Court to quash the Government notification. The Bench posted the matter to August 3, for hearing, along with a few other petitions seeking court directions for and against the Government move of compelling the speed governors.
