An erstwhile champion in 'Dahi Handi' ritual, who used his skills to rob cell phone shops in city and his associate were arrested by Chickpet police.
The police recovered more than Rs 5 lakh worth mobile phones from Vinod Singh (42), and his associate Deepak Singh (22).
Dahi Handi is played during Krishna Janmastami where an earthen pot, containing a mixture of milk, dry fruits, ghee is hung 20-30 feet high in the air.
All that is required is a helping shoulder for the climbers. Vinod Singh used similar methods and used to scale the walls to reach the ventilator or exhaust fan outlets.
He first identified the mobile shops before carrying out the operation. Deepak used to wait outside.
Following several complaints, Chickpet police swung into action and arrested the duo, who hail from Gorakhpur.
The accused had come to Bangalore in search of job and undertook carpentry, painting, polishing and interior decoration work. Vinod Singh was on bail in a similar case.

An eight-member gang involved in high way robbery was arrested by Banashankari police recently. The gang were seen carrying deadly weapons in their jurisdiction and during interrogation they revealed their involvement in various robbery cases.
SI killed
Within a month of taking charge as Sub-inspector of Tumkur town police station, Jayanna (42) died in a road accident on NH 4 during the wee hours of Tuesday.
He decided to travel in his private car to Kolar to attend the court in Kolar. On reaching Menashinakuppa, the car collided against a truck, killing him on the spot.
After serving for 18 months in Kolar, he was transferred to Tumkur recently.
Woman ‘abused’
An Armyman’s wife, who was allegedly involved in a road rage incident, has complained to the police the two-wheeler rider had used indecent language.
Responding to a report with the heading ‘Armyman’s wife attacks rider’ on Sunday, she said the sales executive had threatened her dignity in public and used foul language.
She too has lodged a complaint with the police.
