2 KIDS DIE
Dengue threat in City
Bangalore, dhns:

Cases of dengue fever reported in City hospitals have increased in the last two months. The fever, transmitted to humans through the bite of Aedes aegypti mosquito, has claimed the lives of two children admitted to M S Ramaiah Hospital (MSRH) during this period.
Many children have been infected. Cases have been coming in clusters, rapidly, MSRH associate professor (paediatrics) Dr Karunakar said. MSRH has treated 40 children diagnosed with dengue in the last two months, most of whom are from Bangalore and surrounding areas. Two children died in the last two months, he said. Four children with suspected dengue were admitted to MSRH on Tuesday, one of whom was Devika (6 months). She is in the ICU and needs time to improve. The condition of two other children, both 12 years, are improving, he said.
At St John’s Hospital too, 40 children were diagnosed with dengue in the last two months. Last week, five to six cases of children with dengue were reported, said St John’s Medical College and Hospital’s consultant physician Dr Joseph Rajendran. Manipal Hospital’s consultant paediatrician Dr Karthik Nagesh said five children with suspected dengue have been admitted every week.  There has been a spurt in adults diagnosed with dengue fever as well.
BBMP claim
BBMP officials claimed the cases have not yet been confirmed. BBMP chief health officer L T Gayathri said the Palike has received information about suspected cases of dengue from MSRH.
However, cases have not been confirmed.
