Truckers’ stir to hit LPG supplies
The ongoing strike by sand transporters took a serious turn on Tuesday, with the Federation of Karnataka State Lorry Owners and Agents Associations deciding to cover essential commodities and domestic LPG under the strike. Federation president G R Shanmugappa and secretary B V Narayanappa said the decision followed the failure of another round of talks, the latest with Transport Minister Cheluvarayaswamy.
Mr Cheluvarayaswamy’s refusal to withdraw restrictions on sand excavation was testing the striking truckers’ patience, they said. Milk and medicine supplies, however, will be exempted from the strike.

Residents of Bharatingar, particularly Cox Town and Doddigunte have alleged that they have been deprived of sufficient water supply for the past 15 days. A group of residents majority of whom were women, held a demonstration with empty water pots in front of the BWSSB office at Cox Town on Tuesday.
