A mammoth Okkaliga rally and felicitation programme has been organised at Huliyurdurga, Kunigal taluk, on Thursday, announced district BJP senior leader and district Okkaliga Association director K B Boregowda, here on Tuesday.
The reception committee consists of Yuva BJP leader H A Jayaramaiah and others. 
He said it is a apolitical programme, irrespective of parties, felicitating around hundred personalities who have made significant  contribution to various fields. This is the first time that a programme of such large scale is being held in Huliyurduga, he said.
“ There is a need to create social, educational and through that political awareness among the people. The nation can progress only if people from all communities are emancipated. It is time to shed our narrow mindedness and castist attitude and work for the betterment of nation. Social inequalities should be eradicated. Hence this attempt to bring eminent personalities on one platform,” he said.
Huliyurdurga is a small village but is going through political ups and downs. Caught between Mandya and Tumkur, the political atmosphere at Huliyurdurga has a stamp of its own. It gave political stalwarts like Y K Ramaiah and Hucchamasti Gowda.
The programme is being organised by the Huliyurdurga Okkaligara Jagrita Vedike.  Personalities like Health Minister R Ashok, freedom fighter Y C Nanjundaiahh, Handloom Corporation chairman M D Lakshminarayana and others are being felicitated.
Dr Shivakumara Swamiji, Sri Nanjavadhuta Swamiji, Sri Renukashivacharya Swamiji, Sri Veerabhadra Shivacharya Swamiji, Sri Shivarudra Shivachrya Swamiji, Sri Mahesharadhya Swamiji will be present.
Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa will inaugurate the programme, said Bore Gowda.  BJP State unit president Sadananada Gowda, Katta Subramainya Naidu, MP Mallikarjunaiah, legislators Vimala Gowda and Shobha Karandajle will participate, he said.
