State JD(U) president B Somashekhar, on Tuesday said that his party would oppose tooth and nail the thermal power plant planned at Chamalapura. “We won’t allow farmers’ lands being acquired,” he said.
Somashekhar was speaking after inaugurating the Mysore City and rural district units meeting in the city. “Farmers’ lands are being given to the rich in the name of the power plant,” he added.
Farmers’ interests are being sacrificed to create SEZs, which he termed entertainment centres. The party will fight such tendencies, he added. People are fed up with politicians and politics has only become a means to make money, he felt.
The Congress has for long cheated the people in the name of protecting the interests of Dalits, backward communities and Muslims. The JD(S) too is no different.
Stating that the law and order situation in the State had worsened, Somashekhar said police stations had become havens for criminals. He termed Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy’s village stays as gimmick. JD(U) national general secretary Arun Kumar Srivastava, national general secretary Javed Razzak, former MP Dr Venkatesh and others were present.
