The officer who was caught accepting bribe of Rs 2000 to inspect a house given by slum board to the beneficiary and submit the report has been sentenced to jail by special court judge Shedikar Subhash here on Monday.
Inspector Hanumantappa, working at Karnataka Slum Clearance Board Assistant Executive Engineer’s office has been awarded six months rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 5000.
If he fails to pay the fine, the officer will have to spend additional two months in jail. Hanumantappa had demanded bribe from Aslam Pasha, Ghousianagar. A complaint in this connection was lodged on May 29, 1999 when the officer was caught red handed by the Lokayukta Police. As per Section 13(2) the officer will have to spend another one year in jail and cough up Rs 10,000 as fine.

G S B Swamy, Office Superintendent and Dr Gopalakrishna, Medical Superintendent of the ESI Hospital on KRS Road, were on Tuesday arrested by the Lokayukta police, while they were accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 from one G P Praveen Kumar, a lab technician on contract at the hospital. Praveen reportedly approached the hospital superintendent Dr Gopalakrishna for residential quarters, who said that Praveen could reside at the quarters allotted to Boraiah, a class four employee and that a bribe of Rs 3,000 be given for the favour. Following a complaint in this regard, the Lokayukta officials caught Swamy and Gopalakrishna red handed while accepting the bribe.
