Urging the government to implement Maharashtra model of pension scheme and thus provide social security, Anganwadi Teachers and Assistants staged a protest in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office in Madikeri on Tuesday.
Anganwadi Teachers and Assistants Association State Vice-President T P Ramesh and district President K A Kasthuri lead the protest, which was attended by Anganwadi teachers and Assistants from 45 zones of three taluks.
They urged the government to implement Maharashtra model of pension scheme and age limit for Anganwadi workers as 65 years. Every Anganwadi teacher and assistants must be paid Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000 respectively at the time of retirement.
They said Anganwadi Workers Welfare Fund should be constituted and the government should deduct Rs 100 to Rs 120 from Teachers salary and Rs 50 to Rs 60 from Assistant salary and the government should add the same amount to the fund. Every Anganwadi teacher and Assistants should be given Rs 1,200 and Rs 600 respectively as monthly pension. The DA allowance for the Anganwadi teachers who have rendered more than 24 years of service in the rural areas must be raised to Rs 100 from Rs 60. Incase of the death of Anganwadi teacher and assistant, family members must be given employment on an compassionate ground, they added.
Special allowances must be paid for those Anganwadi teachers and assistants who work for other departments.
The monthly rent of Anganwadi centres must be raised to Rs 300 from Rs 100, they said.
