“Government has decided to open many more centres of learning so that talented students who want to pursue their higher education are not deprived of an opportunity,” said Minister for Higher Education D H Shankarmurthy.
Addressing a gathering at Thenkanidiyur Government First Grade College after inaugurating various Post Graduation courses started in the college and the students council on Tuesday, Mr Shankarmurthy said that government has also decided to start post graduation courses in government universities.
If the private institutiosn have good infrastructure, then such courses will be started in private institutions too as the aim of the department is to raise the percentage of post graduate centres of learning in the State.
“The previous governments have sidelined education sector. But the present coalition government has included education to the priority list and has accordingly increased the funds allotted for education. In the past 18 months, 182 colleges have been started and many more will started in future,” he added and said that government has been striving to provide ample opportunity for the students who want to pursue their higher education.
Additional funds
Mr Shankarmurthy said that about Rs 20 lakh has already been released to Thenkanidiyur Pre University College to develop infrastructure facility in the college and the government is ready to provide more funds if required.
The programme was presided over by Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat. MGM College Principal Jayaprakash Mavinakuli, Deputy Director of Collegiate Education Dr Linda Cristie and others were present at the programme.
