Pay Scales Of Central Govt Staff
New Delhi, Aug. 21.
Mr TT Krishnamachari, Finance Minister, today announced in the Lok Sabha the terms of reference and personnel of the Commission of Inquiry which will go into the pay scales of Central Government employees.
Among the members of the Commission which will have as its Chairman, Mr Justice Jagannatha Das, Judge of the Supreme Court, is Mrs Maragatham Chandrasekhar, former Union Deputy Minister for Health.
‘No Defeatism Mentally’
New Delhi, Aug. 21.
Prime Minister Nehru told the Lok Sabha today that so far as the Government of India was concerned, there was absolutely no element of defeatism in its outlook in facing the difficulties in implementing the Second Five-Year Plan.
Obviously, there were difficulties in implementing the Plan, but basically, the economy of India was very sound and “we have to cross the hump.”

PLO Evacuation Begins
Beirut, Aug. 21.
Beirut resounded to the roar of thousands of guns today as the besieged west side of the city bade farewell to Palestinian fighters with tears, flowers and cries of anti-Israeli defiance. The traditional tribute of firing rifles into the air reached a crescendo as first commandos sailed to Cyprus on the initial stage of their evacuation to Jordon and Iraq.
Over the next two weeks an estimated 15,000 Palestinian guerrillas and Syrian troops are due to be dispersed among eight Arab countries.
