The NCP president and Union Agriculture and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sharad Pawar told party members from Ahmednagar district on Monday to prepare for the mid-term polls as the crisis at the national level is showing no signs of abating.
Pawar said: “If wise counsel prevails, then the (Congress-led UPA) government may continue and complete its term.” The survival of the government now depends upon “wiser counsel” if it prevails in the situation, Pawar said.
In the event of the mid-term polls, there is every likelihood that his daughter Supriya Sule, currently a Rajya Sabha member, will contest from the Baramati Parliamentary constituency.
Pawar has already announced that henceforth he would not contest the Lok Sabha polls and would prefer to be in the Upper House.
Against the backdrop of ongoing bickerings between Shiv Sena and the BJP, the NCP said that there is no chance of the party aligning with the Sena. Sena supremo Bal Thackeray has repeatedly in the past said that Pawar should be the prime minister of the country.
