Mr Yechury was responding to reports that Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Anil Kakodkar would be attending the IAEA meeting in mid-September.
Participating in the General Council was a normal activity and every country does it, the CPM leader added.
Mr Yechury said the CPM central committee, which would meet on Wednesday would also discuss the issue.
Asked whether any progress has been made on finalising a “mechanism” to address the Left concerns, he said the government has spoken about a mechanism and “we have told them you do it, we will consider”.
There were certain objections to the Hyde Act and unless those concerns were evaluated, the government should not go ahead with operationalising the deal, Mr Yechury said, reiterating his party stand.
Making light of a suggestion that the Left was opposing the nuclear deal to help China and Pakistan, he said: “Why should I react to the suggestion? I am for my country’s sovereignty and I am reacting only for India and the Indian people.”
Besides Mr Yechury and Mr Mukherjee, the meeting was attended by Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi and CPM leader in Lok Sabha, Basudeb Acharia.
The 51st Annual General Conference of the IAEA begins on September 17 and will continue up to September 21, while the pre-conference meetings will be held on September 15 and 16.
The General Conference is the highest policy-making body of the IAEA.
