A court here on Tuesday sentenced a suspended corporal of the Indian Air Force to rigorous imprisonment of five years for obtaining and passing official documents to Pakistan High Commission officials five years ago. He was also fined Rs 7,500.
Special Judge Virender Kumar Goel held suspended Corporal Hariom Sharma, 36, guilty of committing the crime under sections 3 and 9 of the Official Secrets Act and section 120-B of the IPC.
The judge noted that a “stiff sentence” had to be imposed on the convict “for deterrent effect.” The prosecution said, Sharma, while serving as a corporal in the Indian Air Force during 2000-02, entered into a criminal conspiracy with Aftab Ahmed and Tariq, officials of the Pakistan High Commission.
