Hindustani classical maestro Gangubai Hanagal has been selected for the Gururao Deshpande Rashtriya Sangeet Puraskar, instituted by Gururao Deshpande Sangeet Sabha.
The Sabha instituted the award to mark its silver jubilee celebrations. Ms Hanagal will be the first recipient of the award.
Sabha chairman Pundit Vinayak Torvi said on Tuesday the award carried a cash prize of  Rs 25,000 in cash, citation and a memento.
The award will be presented to Ms Hangal at a function to be held in Hubli on September 22.
