Amendment to VAT rule opposed
Karnataka State Tax Advocates Association has opposed recent amendment to VAT rule 2007, which does not allow tax advocates to audit accounts of dealer whose turnover exceeds Rs 40 lakh.
In a memorandum to Mr Harish Gowda, commissioner of commercial taxes, the association has said that tax advocates are qualified enough to audit accounts as they have studied both accountancy and law.
“We have acquired vast knowledge of accountancy. By the new amendment we have been deprived of our privilege to certify accounts of our clients”, the memorandum said.
