Last date extended
The Directorate of Medical Education has notified that the date of sale of application forms for B.Pharma, B.Sc (Nursing) & B.P.T courses for the academic year 2007-08, has been extended up to August 23, 2007. Candidates can obtain the application forms from the already notified centres and completed applications will be received upto August 25, 2007 at the same centres. General Merit students who have secured 45 per cent and above as aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English subjects can also apply for admission to 1st B.Sc (Nursing) course.
ICFAI’s B.Com (PAT) programme
The Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India University, Tripura has conceived, designed and developed the B.Com (professional accounting track) programme for the benefit of those students who wish to pursue the Chartered Accountant Program simultaneously. The B.Com (PAT) programme is based on self-study and examinations.
The B.Com (PAT) programme has the curriculum and the subjects, which are in alignment with the curriculum and the subjects of the CA program. Consequently the students who pursue the B.Com (PAT) programme will study approximately the same subjects in which they will be examined in the CA programme also.
Students who have passed 10+2 examinations and also the Common Proficiency Test (CPT) examination of the CA institute are eligible to enroll in the B.Com (PAT) programme.
The programme is of three years duration.
Techfest Nexus contest
Techfest Nexus will be held at IIT Bombay as also in New Delhi, Jaipur, Indore, Surat, Pune and Calicut . Each centre will serve as a base to promote robotics in the area.
Students from across the nation are invited to participate in Vertigo: The National Robotics Challenge, to be held under the banner of Nexus. The competition involves constructing a manually controlled robot, which can perform specific tasks. This competition will be held in two stages for every centre - the first stage will comprise of a zonal round to be held at NIT, Calicut on September 29, 2007 to be followed by the grand finale at IIT Bombay during Techfest in January 2008. At stake for the top three entries at each Nexus round is Rs. 10,000 prize money along with a direct entry into the finals at Techfest in January 2008.
For participating in Nexus interested students have to form teams of maximum four members and register themselves online. Outstation students will be provided accommodation at the venue itself. For more information on Techfest and Nexus check http://www.techfest.org
Code for Freedom
To commemorate India's 60 Years of Independence, Sun Microsystems announced a unique contest recently, 'Code for Freedom”.
Open to undergraduate and graduate students in any college/university accredited by the Government of India, the contest invites contributions to 5 Open Source projects namely OpenSolaris, Netbeans, Project Glassfish, Apache Derby and OpenPortat and will run until January 2008.

Mock GATE test
Gateforum is organising an All India Free Mock Test for the aspirants of GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) on August 26, 2007 in over 30 cities across the country including Bangalore.
The test will be conducted in the engineering disciplines of CSE, ECE, EE, ME, IT and Pharmacy.
The results of the test in terms of All India Ranks and Percentile Scores will be available on the website www.gateforum.com.
The All India top three rankers of each stream in this test would be given 100 per cent scholarship for Gateforum Test Series. In addition, the top rankers in each city would be given scholarships upto 75 per cent for the test series.

CDL announces bursaries for journos
Communication for Development and Learning (CDL), a Bangalore-based NGO with the support of German Agro Action (GAA) and the European Union (EU) is offering bursaries to English language journalists who are interested in writing on the issue of malnutrition and nutrition security. Both working and freelance journalists, from anywhere in india are eligible to apply, though the focus and origin of the stories must be on malnutrition and nutrition security in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Jharkhand, West Bengal or Rajasthan.
Modest financial support will be provided for travel to research the story. The deadline for submitting proposals is September 15, 2007.
