Election fever grips college unions
DH News Service,Mangalore:
After election-fever gripped the degree colleges in and around the district, it is the time of elections for the all college unions existing under the limits of Mangalore University.

After election-fever gripped the degree colleges in and around the district, it is the time of elections for the ‘all college unions’ existing under the limits of Mangalore University.
Allegations were there from the student leaders that some colleges are not conducting elections for their students’ unions, thus “dishonouring the democratic rights of the students”.
And now it is the turn of the university to face a similar charge.Every year debates are common as how many students’ unions should be there under a varsity; that is a different matter.
But, one common demand of all unions surfaced this year is that the university should form a single students’ union representing all under-graduate colleges, by means of election.
The University All College Students Action Committee (new president Dhanraj), after the present year’s election, stated that the students have lost their right to voice their opinion after the membership of students’ unions were withdrawn from Senate. Meanwhile, the University All College Students’ Union and ACSU supported by ABVP also urged that the university should respect the democratic rights of the students.
