Members of Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (DSS) (Ambedkar Vada) have warned of a protest at Mulky Town Panchayat premises on August 24 if the officials concerned fail to take action against those who are creating problems in the construction of Ambedkar Bhavan in Lingappaiah Kadu area within three days.
Addressing a news conference here on Tuesday, DSS district convener S P Anand said that the long pending dream of the people living in Lingappaiah Kadu was to build a Ambedkar Bhavan, for which a sum of Rs 10 lakhs was sanctioned from MLA’s fund and from Mulky Town Panchayat.
He said that while the local residents never protested against the plan. However, some vested interests in the name of ‘Sarvajanika Maidan Hitharakshana Samiti’, are claiming that the proposed land is a play ground which is being used for celebration of national festivals and for sports purposes and hence cannot be used for building the Bhavan.
Mr Anand clarified that building is proposed to be built on an open land, which is a government land and not a maidan.
He also said that the Panchayat chief officer Rayappa who was taking keen interest in the Ambedkar Bhavan was transferred. They also demanded that this transfer must be withheld immediately.
Anand said that if their demands are not solved in three days they would go to the extent of seeking justice under SC/ST Atrocities Act.
