Government has released 45 insurance bonds for the beneficiaries under Bhagyalakshmi Yojane in the district.
Speaking to Deccan Herald, Women and Child Welfare Deputy Director Shehara Banu said government has released 15 bonds each for every taluk. These bonds will be distributed to the beneficiaries in the presence of taluk MLAs and people’s representatives.
On the inauguration of the Yojane, 10 girl children from the district have received the bond in Bangalore.
She said “in 2006-07, the names of 847 girl children were sent to the department. We are expecting the release of remaining bonds soon. In the period, the department has received 904 applications, of which 10 per cent have been disqualified.”
Under Bhagyalakshmi Yojane, once the child attains 18 years, the deposit will be distributed to her within a week after the Nodal Agency certifies that the she is eligible to get the amount.
Ms Banu said those girl children which got enrolled to Bhagyalakshmi Yojane in 2006-07 will receive a sum of Rs 34, 751 after 18 years. She will also receive a scholarship of Rs 2,400 under Shiksha Sahayoga Yojane.
Health insurance
Every child is insured under Jeevan Prakash scheme of LIC. If a child is suffering from heart disease, burns or cancer, the child will receive Rs 25,000 health insurance facility every year till she attains 18.
This is applicable even to those beneficiaries who are handicapped due to a mishap.
Scholarships
Along with the insurance, the child will get following scholarships annually. From first to second standard, every child will get Rs 300, fourth standard (Rs 500), fifth standard (Rs 600), seventh standard (Rs 7,00), eighth standard (Rs 800), ninth and tenth standard (Rs 1,000), I and II PU (RS 1,200).
However, the insurance facilities will be discontinued if the child gets married or stops her education before she attains 18 years.
