Survey works for the drinking water project aimed to provide water from Hemavathi canal and through Sasalu Perumala Devarakere to Shettikere and other villages will be completed in a couple of days.
Legislator of Kallambella constituency K S Kirankumar told media persons at a press conference here at Inspection Bungalow that Rs 3 lakh was released for the survey work.
But, he said, the sum was not enough for the survey work and hence it was appealed to the Minister for Water Resource Eshwarappa for at least Rs 10 lakh. The minister, who responded to the appeal immediately, instructed the chief engineer Gurupadaswamy to release the required amount for the work.
The work was carried out smoothly and will be completed in a few days.
Irrigation expert Paramashivaiah recommended that the water has to flow into Shettikere only through Sasalu tank.
Recommendations
The proposed project was also being implemented as per his recommendation. But, under some pressure, Sasalu has been dropped in the survey.
The legislator objected to this stating that if there was any changes were made deliberately yielding to the pressure of the vested interest, an intense agitation will be taken out.
Boranakanive
It is also planned in the proposed project to provide water to the taluk’s famous water source Boranakanive. The fight for Boranakanive irrigation is still on.
The proposed project will solve drinking water crisis in Kenkere, Huliyaru, Doddabidari, Dasoodi, Melanahalli and other eight villages.
Rs 2.92 crore
The project worth Rs 2.92 crore, taken up under Rajiv Gandhi rural drinking water scheme, will be implemented soon.
There is no restrictions of border for the drinking water project, he said adding that the government is encouraging implementation of more and more water projects. Leaders of different party affiliations have to come together to implement the drinking water project successfully.
