An inter-university drama competition will be held in the city from September 17 onwards where students from 21 universities across India would participate. Addressing media persons here on Wednesday, Kannada and Culture Minister Mahadeva Prasad said all the participating universities will be enacting plays originlly written in Kannada and translated into their local languages.
“Universities in Gujarat, Delhi, Rajasthan, Orissa, Pondicherry, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Chattisgarh will participate in the fest. It will be inaugurated on September 17 at 5 pm,” he said. He said all the state awards like T Chowdaiah, Kanaka Purandara, Dana Chintamani, Dr Gubbi Veeranna, Jakanachari, Shantala Natya Prashasti, Janapada Sri and Varna Shilpi Venkatappa will be given away at a glittering ceremony in the city on August 27.

Promising to upload the details of Dasara festivities to aid more inflow of tourists on the ocassion, the minister said a meeting of officers and artists will be called by the end of the month. “A tour programme will also be organised on the same occasion to Mandya, Hassan, Chamarajanagar helping the tourists draw maximum from their visit here,” he said.
Stating that theatre stalwart B V Karanth’s wife Prema had agreed to give away his collection of musical instruments and books on theatre for setting up of museum, he said the government was in touch with Mysore varsity authorities to explore options of taking land attached to Kalamandira on lease., which belongs to the University.
