Yousuf will be missed: Lawson
Pakistan’s new coach Geoff Lawson has said experienced middle-order bat Mohammad Yousuf’s absence would be felt after he decided to join the rebel Indian Cricket League. “He is a great player and his absence will surely be felt,” said Lawson at his first news conference in Lahore. The former Aussie paceman rated erratic pace ace Shoaib Akhtar highly.

Youth spikers stun Iran
India shocked Asian champions Iran in their second match at the Youth World Volleyball Championship in Mexico, reports PTI from New Delhi.
India rallied to an impressive 18-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-19 win to against Iran and will be up against Brazil in the third and final group encounter that will decide the top-four.

Taufel to conduct umpires’ course
Australia’s ICC panel umpire Simon Taufel will be part of a resource panel that will conduct a six-day training course for umpires at the National Cricket Academy from Thursday. Taufel will be assisted by Cricket Australia’s global development manager Ross Turner. Besides Taufel and Turner, two more observers from Cricket Australia are expected to be present during the course.

Coe elected IAAF vice-president
London's 2012 Olympic chief and twice Olympic 1,500M champion Sebastian Coe was elected a vice-president of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) on Wednesday, reports Reuters from Osaka.
Ukraine's Sergey Bubka, American Robert Hersh and Dahlan Al-Hamad of Qatar will also serve four-year terms as vice-presidents.
Lamine Diack was voted into a final four-year term as IAAF president.

India move up to 151st spot

India made a surprise 11-place jump to 151st in the latest FIFA rankings, which did not take into account the results of the ongoing Nehru Cup tournament, reports UNI from New Delhi.
In AFC rankings also, India made a big jump, moving up six places to 26th.

Hilfenhaus to replace Tait

The International Cricket Council has allowed 24-year-old fast bowler Ben Hilfenhaus to replace the injured Shaun Tait, who has failed to recover from a elbow surgery, in Australia’s Twenty20 World Cup squad, reports AP from Dubai.

ICL to hold camp in Chennai

The Indian Cricket League will hold a conditioning camp for the cricketers in Chennai in the first week of September, reports PTI from New Delhi.
All the seven overseas recruits, including Brian Lara, Inzamam-ul Haq and Lance Klusener, will attend the camp.
