Getting more e-savvy, the South Western Railway (SWR) on Wednesday launched the 21 touch-screen terminals at 12 stations of its jurisdiction spread across four states - Karnataka, Goa, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
The General Manager of SWR Praveen Kumar after dedicating to public 21 touch-screen terminals said the SWR had always been at the forefront of launching customer friendly services and the touch-screen terminal is one of them.
He said this facility would not only reduce rush from the enquiry counters but also would give exact information about the location of a particular train.
This touch screen terminal, which is also known as ‘online train information kiosk’ gives an easy access to train related information through touch screens, particularly the train running status. It gives the updated position of trains with graphics. The data is directly fetched from computerised control charting server at the Bangalore Division Headquarters and is updated in every three minutes.
Besides, touch screen terminals give details of PNR status, reservation availability, train time table, train fare, Railway rules and regulations, PF enquiry, RTI, amenities available at the station and tourist information or places of interest.
The kiosk also gives information about the alignment of coaches in advance for the ease of passengers.
