Based on the novel Ayana by T N Rangan (Manu) (Best Story Award), the film, which revolves around the struggle between the haves and havenots, tries to drive home of the message of Mahatma Gandhi, whose ideals and philosophies form the sub-text for the film.
The film delectably analyses the causes of communal conflicts and shows how politicians are the root cause for it. Set in college campus, where the taught and tutors live in harmony, the film spotlights on how the naive and gullible people are manoeuvred into desparate situations. Under conscientious tutelage of their teacher Ramnath, the students are motivated to ingrain social responsibility and noble ideals of harmonious co-existence.
However, following an unfortunate prank, a diligent and studious student, coming from a poor background, finds himself suspended. Thanks to wily mechanisation of a self-serving politician, the film, then shows how this ultimately leads to full blown violent frenzy and destruction of property and human lives when the seeds of suspicion is sowed between the two groups.
